Question
Can a liquid stop a bullet?
Objectives
-Analyze the viscosity of the used fluids and describe why it can stop a bullet.
-To know how much force may liquids handle to stop a bullet.
Materials
–A compressed air gun with ammunition (Plastic BB)
–Safety equipment
–Plastic bags
–Notebook and Pen
–Ballistic Gel
Problem
We wonder if we could make armor form a liquid, more importantly if this liquid armor can stop a bullet.
Variables
Dependent: Ability to stop moving object (bullet).
Independent: Viscocity of the liquid being tested.
Constant: Weapon and ammunition we are shooting.
Hypothhesis
We think that obleck,a type ofnon-newtonian fluid is able to stop a “bullet” from an airsoft gun.
Procedure
1.First we fill with the fluids the plastic bags to simulate a bullet-proof vest.
2.Find a proper place to make this experiment.
3.We put the “target” (ballistic gel) in position.
4.We place the plastic bags filled with the fluids in front of the target.
5.Shoot aiming for the target.
6.We check if the bullet reached the otherside of the plastic bag,if it went all the way through.
Observations
Honey:
The honey stopped the bb and the bb remained inside the bag.
Ketchup:
The bb went through the ketchup, and it was so fast that the bb came out clean from the other side of the bag.
Shampoo:
The bb went through, but the bb slowed down and also changed direction.
Water:
Water stopped the bb and also stayed inside of the bag.
Oobleck:
The oobleck stopped the bb, and the impact was noticeable,we could see how the oobleck absorbed the impact. Gpx<5
